Why Don't Students Like School?

In Why Don’t Students Like School, scientist Daniel Willingham addresses frequently asked questions centered on the reasons why kids don’t like school. This book gives readers insight on how the brain is not designed for thinking, but memory. Facts similar to this scatter throughout his book and make it easy for educators to understand their students’ needs. This new information can translate in better classrooms and create a better learning environment for students.

This book is great for anyone interested in becoming a teacher or for someone who works one on one with kids. The tools and information Willingham gives readers is great and life changing. Teachers and adults alike can use this information when dealing with students to further their education and learning. I recommend this book to anyone interested in children or the reasons behind how brains work and how it is put into play at school.

Chicken Soup for the Kid's Soul

Chicken Soup for the Kid’s Soul is a book full of stories about life from the perspective of young kids. Every page contains a different story or quote making the book very unique and fun to read. The book covers various topics from love and friendship to tragedies and death. Kids have a chance to voice out their opinions on these topics and share personal stories that may be funny or sad. Many bestselling authors compiled these stories and quotes to make the book very entertaining and captivating for readers.

After reading this book I would definitely recommend that every teacher reads this book. Teachers can learn from these stories and gain more insight on the types of kids that they work with daily. It has given me a new perspective on how I will deal with my students, because I see where they are coming from and how their minds think. I really enjoyed every second of the book and am so glad I selected it.

Independent Reading

During my time at CAPS I read two books, both revolving around students and education. I enjoyed both of my selections and am glad i chose to read them as another medium to gain knowledge about kids I work with while in the classrooms.
