Our CAPS teacher ed class visited Emporia State for a campus tour. We also went to one of the classrooms and talked with the students and professor.
In class, the first graders made these puppets to help them remember all of the long -e vowels.
We all had fun taking pictures as a class on the iPad during my lesson.
Every morning the students gather around for circle time and read over their morning note.
For one of my lessons the students made their own compound kites.
This was my example I showed the first graders before they started their own compound kites.
This was my last day with Ms. James class, because I loved working with them over the past year.
During my second observation at Valley Park Elementary I was in a first grade class. I had the unique opportunity to teach the class about adjectives.
During an activity in class I shared out one of my projects I had been working on to the rest of my class. In CAPS teacher ed we focus a lot on projects that will benefit us as teachers in the future, not just busy work.
To prepare us for teaching in real classes we all write up a lesson plan and teach it to our teacher ed class. My fellow classmates took on the role of second graders as I taught a spelling unit. This was a very fun and entertaining way to get used to public speaking and preforming a creative lesson.
During my lesson I showed the class a video about adjectives. They were all engaged and loved watching this video to further explain the material.
During our first week in class we split into groups and put together kites. We went outside and flew them around and later hung them around the room. This activity followed up on an article we read about patience and persistence when getting something done.
